Character Q&A: Aeneas Entwistle of Sher J. Stultz's The Rescue #characterinterview

Today's guest is Aeneas Entwistle from inside the pages of THE RESCUE by Sher J. Stultz.  It is a pleasure to have him with us at The Literary Nook!

What is your name?

Aeneas Entwistle

What do you look like?

I’m biracial. My mom is African American, and my dad is of European descent. I’ve got brown eyes, light brown skin, and keep my hair shaved on the sides with flat top. The last time I measured myself I was topping out at 5’9” but I’m only fourteen and my older brother is over six feet, so I’m headed upward. My eyelashes are long, and I smile a lot.

Where are you today and what are you doing?

Today I’m hanging with my best bro, C.J. We are taking our dog-share, Sput down to Alki Point Lighthouse for a walk along the beach. We’ll talk about guy stuff then head back to his house for dinner. His mom cooks Japanese food and I love eating dinner with them.

Describe the outside of your home.

I live in refurbished old Craftsman style house in West Seattle. It’s got these cool pillars out front, and my mom and my sister Persephone planted native pollinator gardens. It’s got three floors and a nice kitchen. I picked out this house for my parents when I was little because we were living in a loft in the Industrial District and our family needed more space. Plus, it’s really close to Hiawatha Playfield where I play soccer.

What is your favorite piece of clothing?

My Clint Dempsey Sounders jersey is sacred to me. I outgrew my old one and my mom bought me another because she says I wear them to pieces. Clint’s my boy. He inspires me to play hard, train hard and give it my best every game.

What scares you?

I’m scared when I wake up with different socks than what I wore to bed. I’ve no clue what’s going because I’m having some weird dreams, too. My best friends, C.J. and Tabitha are working to help me figure it out and set up a video camera in my bedroom. Turns out I vanish sometimes at night and return with socks that look like falling snow.

How would your parents describe you?

I’m the laid-back middle child. I’m also just above average, not a genius like my older brother or younger sister. My mom and dad appreciate my practical suggestions and my happy-go-lucky attitude. That’s how we got our quirky housekeeper, Harold. I think they were worried about me because I’m not like my siblings, but it turns out I’ve got hidden talents like the ability to enter the space-time continuum, which is a secret I keep from my parents, for now.

What’s the last thing you do before you go to bed at night?

I check the socks I’m wearing so if there’s another earthquake and I vanish in my sleep and return with a new pair, I’ll know about it. My best bro, C.J. told me to snap a pic of my feet before bed, just in case.

Who is your best friend?

My best friend is C.J. Willoughby. Other people think it’s weird that my best friend would be two years younger than me, but C.J. is kind of mature for his age. He and I are both biracial. We don’t talk about it much, but he’s half-Japanese and I’m half-African American. Neither of us is like our parents and that’s one thing we have in common, being the odd one in our families. His mom and dad are professional musicians and mine are world-class biochemists. C.J. obsessed with the Seahawks, while I prefer the Sounders, but we respect each other’s sports team and like to hang out with our dog, Sput. And we have each other’s backs.

Where is your favorite hangout?

I hang out at Freshy’s in West Seattle across from Hiawatha Playfield. It’s my neighborhood coffee shop and the best place to meet up with C.J. and Tabitha because it’s got a chill vibe and good sandwiches.

About the Book

It all starts when the sheets go slack, and Aeneas vanishes! He and his two best friends, C.J. and Tabitha are spellbound as they watch the video feed of his disappearance and witness him climbing through his bedroom window an hour later, wearing different socks. Aeneas Entwistle, a slightly above average eighth grader is about to discover that the mystery of waking up with different socks is much more than just a prank.

Adding to that dilemma, Aeneas is struggling with new feelings for Tabitha and loses his cool during her birthday party. Meanwhile, Aeneas’s twenty-something daughter, Cassie has traveled thirty-eight years from the future hoping to find any small detail that might help locate her missing father. Enlisting Harold, the Entwistle’s quirky housekeeper, Cassie works to rescue a middle-aged Aeneas, who vanishes into the timestream when a 7.2 earthquake strikes northwest Washington in May of 2053. But Cassie’s presence in the past might have unforeseen consequences for everyone in her circle. As she struggles to find her father, a carefully guarded family secret is revealed, and Cassie must choose between altering the past or violating the shamanic rules of time travel!

“Author Sher J. Stultz weaves an intricate plot filled with unexpected twists and turns that hooks you in from the first page and refuses to let go until the end. Moving at a blistering pace, the narrative is full of intrigue, mystery, and a sense of wonder that you find in well-written adventure tales. The characters are colorful and full of life. Their distinct quirks and idiosyncrasies only make them more appealing to the reader. I adored the friendship between Aeneas, Tabitha, and C.J. I also found myself enjoying the dynamic between Cassie and Harold. Recommended to young adult sci-fi/fantasy lovers.”Reviewed By Pikasho Deka for Readers’ Favorite
