Character Interview: Nicole from Lynne and Valerie Constantine's 'Circle Dance'

We’re thrilled to have here today Nicole from Lynne and Valerie Constantine’s contemporary fiction Circle Dance. She is coming to us all the way from the great state of Maryland. It is a pleasure to have her with us today at The Literary Nook!

Thank you so for this interview, Nicole. Now that the book has been written, do you feel you were fairly portrayed or would you like to set anything straight with your readers?

I think that for the most part Lynne and Valerie portrayed me accurately, but I think we all agree that no one can know all things about another human being. There were times in the book where they believed I went into situations blindly, but in truth, I always knew what I was doing. Often they portrayed me a little more hot-headed than I think I am, or perhaps I just didn’t want readers to see that not so attractive side of me.

What do you believe is your strongest trait?

Determination. Some synonyms for that are: purpose, resolve, fortitude. I have great strength of character and will fight to the end for what I believe in. Sometimes this gets me into trouble, and sometimes I upset people I love, but I am always true to what I believe, no matter what the consequences.

Worst trait?

My hot temper. That, in combination with my impulsiveness, can really set the stage for things I regret later. It can work against those things I want most.

Do you have a love interest in the book?

I do. More than one!

At what point of the book did you start getting nervous about the way it was going to turn out?

Without delivering a spoiler, I would say that I began to get nervous when I met the married senator.

If you could trade places with one of the other characters in the book, which character would you really not want to be and why?

I wouldn’t want to be Caroline, Stewart’s mother. She has been a pampered child, a disappointed wife, and a distant mother. Her life is empty and unfulfilled. She is, I believe, the saddest character in the book.

How do you feel about the ending of the book without giving too much away?

I love the ending. It has a bit of melancholy, but overall it is a very satisfying ending for the family and for me.

What words of wisdom would you give your author if she decided to write another book with you in it?

I would tell them that no one is all black or all white, that every character has redeeming qualities as well as flaws. It’s okay for your hero or heroine to misstep, or to make a bad decision. That’s what makes us human.

Thank you for this interview.  Will we be seeing more of you in the future?

You just might.

Young, smart and beautiful with everything figured out – or so they thought. Born into a prosperous Greek American family, sisters Nicole and Theodora have achieved the perfect balance between the old world rich in Greek tradition and the freedom of life in America.

Nicole’s world spins out of control when she falls for a married senator who shares her heritage and her dreams. The decisions she makes will affect the happiness of those closest to her and will define the woman she is to become.

As Theodora struggles to succeed at her marriage, she seeks the wisdom and council of her beloved Greek grandmother who has been happily married for over half a century. Ultimately she must come to terms with the reality of her own life and take responsibility for the role she has played in deceiving herself.

As the dramatic plot unfolds, the two young women must confront deceit and betrayal and their own shortcomings—while they struggle to preserve the values they cherish.

Set in Baltimore, Annapolis and the tiny island of Ikaria, Greece, Circle Dance provides a view into the lives of a dynamic family that has successfully achieved the American dream without abandoning the customs and traditions handed down through their Greek heritage.
